Memecoin Experience Linked to US President Increases Following Trump’s NFT Meeting
Over the past 24 hours, memecoins inspired by former and current US presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden have witnessed significant increases in value. CoinGecko data reveals that Trump-inspired memecoin MAGA (TRUMP) experienced a notable increase of over 44% during this period. Additionally, Jeo Boden (BODEN), a misspelled reference to incumbent President Joe Biden, saw an increase of more than 22%.
The latest surge in memecoins related to the presidential election coincides with Trump’s announcement Wednesday that he is accepting cryptocurrency for campaign donations. At a meeting held on Trump’s day off from the hearing, the former president assured attendees: “If you can’t do it, I’ll make sure you do it.” He confidently stated that he believes individuals will be able to donate to the Trump campaign using cryptocurrency.
Trump took the opportunity to criticize President Joe Biden’s understanding of cryptocurrency, as well as his campaign donation plans. He claimed that Biden “doesn’t know” what crypto is and urged cryptocurrency supporters to vote for him, saying: “If you love crypto in any form, and it comes in many different forms, you better vote Trump on Crypto if you support it too.”
Responding to a question about keeping crypto businesses in the US, Trump emphasized his determination to keep them in the country. He expressed concern about the possible displacement of crypto startups due to hostility towards the industry, saying: “If crypto is leaving the US because of hostility towards crypto… we will stop that. We don’t want that. If we’re going to embrace it, we have to let them be here.”
