Scammers bagged over $500k from 15+ X breaches

More than 15 X accounts have been compromised recently; hackers pocketed an estimated $500,000 by scamming Solana meme coins.

Blockchain detective ZachXBT revealed on December 24 that a threat actor targeting Solana (SOL) meme investors and X pages made nearly half a million dollars by promoting scam tokens through hacked social media pages.

Popular accounts like Brett (BRETT), Kick Streaming, and Alex Blania were all breached. In each case, the compromised page announced a new cryptocurrency and shared a contract address, inviting unsuspecting victims to invest in SOL.

ZachXBT has detected more than 15 incidents since November 26; This is all based on the concentrated efforts of an unknown evil actor.

How did X hackers gain access?

ZachXBT’s research showed that scammers are using scare tactics to steal passwords and other credentials. The hacker will impersonate X support representatives, claiming that users are violating terms of use and copyright policies.

X has become a global town square since Elon Musk acquired the company formerly known as Twitter. The vision of freedom of expression and paying creators has spurred more brand-building projects on the social network.

Hackers took advantage of X’s fame to bombard users with phishing links, capitalizing on the sense of urgency builders often experience when faced with the potential of losing their social media accounts. ZachXBT advised the public to “limit email address reuse across services” and also use “security keys for 2FA on key accounts” to strengthen personal cybersecurity.
