Independent US presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who took a pro-cryptocurrency stance during his campaign, will speak at the Consensus 2024 crypto conference in Austin, Texas, later this month.
“As an environmental lawyer, scion of a Democratic political dynasty, and now a maverick presidential candidate, Kennedy will announce his support for cryptocurrency and self-custody,” according to a press release from CoinDesk at the annual event.

Kennedy is lagging far behind the likely Republican and Democratic candidates (Donald Trump and incumbent Joe Biden, respectively) in the presidential election. He is running as an independent after failing to advance in the Democratic primary.
Crypto is becoming increasingly politicized in the US; many Republicans are pro-crypto and Democrats are opposed or at best skeptical. Kennedy is a member of a prominent Democratic family (which supports Biden). His uncle, John F. Kennedy, served as U.S. president in the 1960s, and his father served as U.S. Attorney General during that administration before running for president.
On crypto, the Democrat is breaking from his roots.
