Crypto users have received warnings via email newsletters to be careful due to ongoing supply chain attacks targeting the digital asset industry.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino warned users about a compromised email provider used by various digital asset service providers. While the identity of the seller has not been disclosed, investigations into the matter are ongoing.
CoinGecko co-founder and COO Bobby Ong also confirmed that the same breach occurred. Ardoino and Ong warned that a flurry of phishing email scams promoting malicious airdrop distribution or token launches could soon target users.
“There is no CoinGecko token planned, so don’t be fooled by phishing emails,” Ong said of X. Several users on social media also reported suspicious messages from providers like Binance. Additionally, crypto.news confirmed that crypto exchange Bitfinex was among the affected companies.

Like other digital space participants, digital asset users have faced constant attacks from bad actors attempting to gain access and steal funds. A similar incident occurred in January, when emails of Cointelegraph, Trezor, Token Terminal, WalletConnect and other companies were compromised.
Nansen customers reported phishing emails last November following a third-party vendor leak. In early 2023, scammers hacked domain registrar Namecheap and bombarded MetaMask users with malicious emails.
Experts and security veterans have also called on platforms like Google to tighten their systems against bad actors targeting users and unsuspecting victims.
