Hong Kong Police Seeking Four After Kidnapping Crypto Investors: Report

Hong Kong police are on the lookout for four men who kidnapped a crypto investor on Tuesday in Tai Lau Leng Village off Po Shek Wu Road in Sheung Shui District.

According to a report by the South China Morning Post, the suspects stopped the 55-year-old woman while she was riding in a car with her husband and attacked him with a stun gun when he tried to prevent her from being taken.

Four Abduct Crypto Investor

The unidentified woman was released around 9:45 p.m., about an hour after being taken away in a seven-seater vehicle. She works as a crypto investor, while her husband of 43 years owns an information technology company.

People familiar with the matter said the attack was linked to a HK$15 million (US$1.9 million) crypto investment dispute in which the victim was involved.

Finally, police officers arrived at the scene after receiving a complaint from the victim’s husband. When the woman was released in Ta Kwu Ling, about 4.3 kilometers from the crime scene, she went to the nearest police station for help.

Further investigations revealed that the kidnappers were between 30 and 50 years old, and the woman did not know them. She suffered minor injuries to her arm and leg while her husband suffered injuries to his head, neck and limbs.

While the police are treating the case as illegal detention and assault, the couple has been sent to a hospital for treatment. The force has made no arrests so far, and the case was the second kidnapping the city witnessed in 32 hours.

Hong Kong sees rise in crypto crimes

Hong Kong is currently experiencing an increase in crypto-crimes, mainly due to financial disputes over investments in digital assets.

Last month, CryptoPotato reported that the Hong Kong police force rescued a 19-year-old who had been the victim of a terrible ordeal, arresting three teenagers responsible for the assault and illegal detention.

The victim was subjected to threats and brutal assaults with baseball bats over a dispute over $23,000 in crypto trading profits. There are nine suspects, but only three were arrested at the crime scene. Police are still looking for the remaining six, four men and two women.
