According to the Bitrefill report, cryptocurrency users spent more than $135,000 of different cryptocurrencies on pizzas in the last 12 months.
A comprehensive analysis of internal pizza gift card sales data shows that users purchased 3,941 pizzas with crypto. Bitcoin (BTC), along with the Lightning Network, still dominates the scene with a 23.8% share of total crypto-related pizza sales.
According to the Bitrefill report, Ethereum (ETH) ranks second with a 20.5% share in pizza orders. USDT, the largest stablecoin with a market value of $111 billion, accounts for 6.8% of pizzas purchased with crypto worldwide.
Domino’s Pizza restaurant chain tops the list with 3,012 pizza orders with cryptocurrency last year, according to Bitrefill. Papa John’s and Pizza Hut come in second and third with 473 and 173 purchases, respectively.
According to Bitrefill analysis, the top five states in the USA for crypto pizza orders are as follows:
California with 266 transactions. Texas with 211 transactions. Florida with 161 transactions. New York with 141 transactions. Washington with 136 transactions.
Bitrefill’s report comes as the crypto community celebrates the popular Bitcoin Pizza Day. On May 22, 2010, developer and Bitcoin miner Laszlo Hanyecz purchased two Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 BTC, which was worth about $41 at the time.
This was the first documented real-world Bitcoin transaction, and the Bitcoin community celebrates May 22 as Bitcoin Pizza Day.
Hanyecz’s Bitcoins would be worth over $700 million today.
