President Biden issued an executive order on crypto in March 2022, a move aimed at creating a coordinated and comprehensive approach to crypto policy across the federal government. The order aims to “address the risks and leverage the potential benefits of digital assets and their underlying technology,” the White House said in a March press release.

The executive order called for investigating U.S. central bank digital currency (CBDC) and illegal financing, as well as reducing “national security risks posed by the illicit use of digital assets.” House, who co-authored the order, described it in an interview as a “balanced” approach to overseeing the crypto industry and acknowledged that there are still “gaps” that need to be addressed.
