ZkSync Hyperchain Sophon Raises $60 Million Through Node Sale

Sophon, the entertainment-focused zkSync hyperchain, has raised approximately $60 million in less than a week after starting its node sale.

According to an announcement sent to CryptoPotato, the $60 million raised will be in addition to the $10 million raised more than a month ago in a funding round led by several crypto companies, including OKX Ventures, Huobi Ventures, Spartan and SevenX.

Sophon raises $60 million

As a modular blockchain leveraging zkSync’s hyperchain technology, Sophon is designed for applications in high-performance sectors such as artificial intelligence and gaming. The network, co-founded by anonymous Sebastien, former Head of Decentralized Finance at zkSync and popular Crypto Twitter personality Pentoshi, will launch in Q3 2024 alongside the zkSync Hyperchain toolkit.

The founders of Sophon offered for sale 200,000 nodes structured in several levels. They were looking to raise roughly $60 million in wrapped ether (WETH) and have done so in less than a week of starting sales.

Once zkSync enables proof of authority for hyperchains, node holders will be able to run the Sophon sequencer and contribute to the decentralization of the network. They will be rewarded with Sophon’s native token, SOPH.

“Sophon Hyperchain is dedicated to developing an entertaining, efficient and secure playground that uses ZK technology for artificial intelligence, gaming and more, and its team’s track record positions it as the leading Hyperchain in the ecosystem zkSync. In addition, there are several projects lined up to launch online,” the Sophon team said.

SOPH Airdrop Requirement

After the launch of Sophon, SOPH will be distributed to users through a one-time air release. Market participants will be required to participate in crypto assets to receive SOPH allocations. Assets up for staking include BEAM, the privacy-focused native token of Beam Network, and ZENT, the native asset of gaming platform Zentry.

Commenting on the funds raised so far, Sebastien said: “When I decided to build Sophon, choosing the ZK Stack was a no-brainer. I know the product inside out compared to other stacks on the market. It’s about building for tomorrow more than yesterday, and I’m convinced that in a few years, looking back at the design and infrastructure choices that Matter Labs made will seem obvious. I will continue to work closely with the incredible team at Matter Labs.”
