42 coins have outperformed BTC year-to-date: Lookonchain

According to Lookonchain analysis, Popcat, Mantra, and Mog Coin are among the 42 cryptocurrencies that will overtake Bitcoin by 2024.

Bitcoin (BTC) is the world’s largest and most important digital asset and currently attracts the most institutional interest. However, the flagship cryptocurrency lags behind 42 altcoins in terms of year-to-date returns, according to an analysis by Lookonchain.

Cryptocurrencies that have recorded significant gains compared to Bitcoin as of September 2024 include Popcat (POPCAT), Mantra (OM), and Mog Coin (MOG).

For example, POPCAT has skyrocketed after Binance announced trading support in August, rising 7550% since the beginning of the year.

Mantra, which is expecting its mainnet launch in October, has seen its OM token surge by 1550% YTD. The altcoin is among the coins listed on Binance that have seen a massive price increase.

However, other coins not listed on the exchange also performed well, including MOG up 2200% and MAGA up 1129%. For comparison, BTC was up over 43% at the time of writing.

Meme coins and exchange tokens

Meme coins, exchange tokens and a few small-cap companies are among the tokens that have overtaken Bitcoin, which reached an all-time high above $73,000 in 2024 amid spot exchange-traded funds and halving sentiment.

Of the top 10 coins that have gained the most compared to BTC since the beginning of the year, eight are meme coins, and Binance currently lists four of them.

Dogwifhat (WIF) is one of the meme coins to be listed on Binance in 2024 and its performance since the beginning of the year is at 976%, with the potential to rise by more than 230% since the leading exchange added trading support in March.

Other notable winners include ARKM, PENDLE, FLOKI, and PEPE, which Binance listed in 2023 and are expected to see significant upward momentum in 2024. According to Lookonchain, exchange listings appear to be strengthening these tokens.
